About the role:

We are looking for a Junior Front-end Engineer, to join our existing front-end team.  The team primarily own front-end focused products but also own one node.js (NestJS) back-end providing the opportunity to do both front-end and back-end development work. 

Our Junior Engineers are an integral part of our development teams.  Working closely with their direct team, as well on occasion in collaboration with others, they are hands on and continuously working to improve our product through writing clean, maintainable and efficient code. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a Front-End engineer with some exposure to back-end development (or an interest in doing back-end development). We are looking for candidates who are passionate about continuous learning and improvement and are looking for an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on an exciting product.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Participating in all aspects of agile software development, writing code, debugging and optimising our product to a high standard as part of a sprint team
  • Participating in code reviews, using these as opportunity for up-skilling
  • Working with other engineers within the team to break down complex problems into simple solutions that are easy to implement and maintain
  • Being an active contributor to the team, sharing ideas and constantly looking for ways to improve
  • Staying current with trends and best practices in the FinTech industry to continuously improve development processes

What we’re looking for:

  • At least 1 years’ experience working as a front-end engineer and proficient using JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5 & CSS
  • Experience working with JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue or Angular (We use Next.js)
  • Experience working with popular JavaScript testing frameworks (We use Jest & Cypress)
  • Some familiarity with cloud computing concepts and DevOps tools (AWS, Docker, Jenkins)
  • High development standards, especially for code quality, code reviews, unit testing, continuous integration and deployment
  • Confident in discussing technical decisions & can work as part of a team to refine development practices
  • A strong collaborator who is eager to learn
  • Strong problem-solving ability, great attention to detail and an effective communicator
  • Growth mindset, with an appetite for taking on challenges and leveraging new technologies

What would be great to have:

  • Experience in creating UI designs is a bonus
  • Knowledge and understanding of the payments industry
  • Background in a FinTech start-up/scale up environment
  • Practical knowledge of the Atlassian software suite

Interview process:

  • 1st stage – Interview with Hiring Manager and a member of the Engineering team -60 minutes.
  • 2nd Stage – Technical interview via Zoom with two engineers from the team – 60 minutes
  • Final Stage – We may include a final 30-minute call with the hiring manager but not a definite step
